The endeavour

Due to extensive publicity proving global warming caused by man, more and more people are becoming concerned about the environment and the consequences of global climate change.

We think it's time to start a from the bottom-up, grass roots approach and combine food crop with oil seed farming by growing the cash crop jatropha for the production of bio fuels in one of the poorest area's of our world: Africa. This way the African people can have access to sustainable energy and earn money by selling the seeds or the oil from cultivating the jatropha tree, which has a lot of environmentally friendly advantages as well. Keeping money inside the economy is one of the basics in getting a developing country on a path of economic growth. A bio fueled economy prevents money, and the means for economic growth, from slipping away to other countries.

The costs for fuel in a bio fueled economy flow back into the economy, and that's a big change for the better. Self reliance will empower the people at even the lowest levels of the economy.

Mark and Arjan of the YES-Africa foundation are making a journey through Southern Africa to promote the use of the jatropha tree for the production of Pure Plant Oil as a sustainable bio fuel. In a truck fueled by plant oil they will drive from South Africa to Tanzania. During this trip they will visit jatropha cultivation projects and promote the advantages of the cash crop jatropha for sustainable energy. While making this promotional journey, Mark and Arjan will be followed by still and video cameras.

After the journey, Mark will remain in Tanzania, with the truck as his base of operations, for three more years to continue the work promoting jatropha. Together with local partners he will plant over one million jatropha trees for a sustainabe business in oil and seeds.
